French Watchdog ANFR Pulls Out iPhone 12 For High Radiation Levels; Apple Responds

The ANFR is a public agency tasked to routinely monitor the radiation of gadgets. They measure the appliance’s Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) or the energy absorbed by the body when exposed to radiation. European countries have a standardized SAR of 4.00 watts per kilogram. The iPhone 12’s SAR was reported to be 5.74 watts per kilogram in a simulation wherein the phone is in contact with the body.

Apple argues that it sought approval from international bodies to ensure that the radiation coming from the iPhone 12 falls under global standards. The company sent reports from their in-house lab to prove the allegation false. France’s junior minister for the digital economy, Jean-Noel Barrot, allowed the usage of the iPhone 12 until the next software update. Should radiation levels be the same, the phone model will be recalled.
